Construction of new dump station in Half Moon Bay
At the end of 2023, the old dump station at the Half Moon Bay marina was closed due to rising costs and issues with vandalism. In 2024 the Howick Local Board received a lot of feedback that locals wanted a dump station returned to East Auckland. Pleased to confirm that construction is due to begin on Monday 2 November and will take approximately 2 weeks (subject to weather).
It's taken longer than we'd hoped due to our limited budgets and the complex nature of installing wastewater infrastructure close to the water. But I'm pleased to see it will be in place for Summer. The single bay station will be located next to the existing public toilets, which reduced the construction cost and provides better value for money.
This will provide an environmentally safe and responsible way for motorhomes, campervans, and caravans to empty their self-contained wastewater.
While every effort will be made to minimise disruption during construction, reserve users may notice:
🚧 Temporary fencing around the work area.
🚧 Increased contractor and construction vehicle activity.
🚧 Minor disruptions to access immediately adjacent to the construction zone.
Public access to the wider car park will remain available throughout the works wherever practicable, and all activities will be undertaken in accordance with health and safety requirements.
Upon completion, the new dump station will:
✅ Provide a safe and environmentally responsible wastewater disposal facility.
✅ Support motorhome and caravan visitors travelling through the area.
✅ Enhance the amenity and functionality of Ara Tai Esplanade Reserve.
