Celebrating Korean Culture
On Saturday, fellow Howick Local Board member Jack Collins and I attended the Korean Day event at the Botany Town Centre.
Part of the Celebrating Cultures Pop-Up, this special day was organised by Korean Positive Ageing Charitable Trust to celebrate Korea's National Foundation Day (개천절Gaecheonjeol) on October 3 which commemorates the legendary founding of Gojoseon, the first Korean kingdom in 2333 BCE.
There were traditional and contemporary performances, as well as activities to engage with, including an opportunity to try on some traditional Korean clothing. It was wonderful to see the community enjoying the different opportunities, and the community mural filling in!
Celebrating Cultures is a two-week programme of free activities and events organised by Arts Out East, with funding and support from Te Tuhi, Howick Local Board, and Botany Town Centre.
It runs until Saturday 10 October - check out more opportunities here: https://www.botanytowncentre.co.nz/events/cultural-pop-up.html
