Weekly Wrap Up: 13 April 2026

Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 13 April.

On Wednesday I attended the Business East Tamaki Committee meeting (as HLB representative to the business association). They’d recently delivered the fantastic RSM East Auckland Business Awards 2026, showcasing the very best in local businesses. We also had a good conversation about the Auckland Transport reform, including the roading classification to be discussed at our workshop on Thursday.

On Thursday we had our HLB workshop (https://aucklandcouncil.resolve.red/portal/meeting/12273)

📑 Community Grants – we reviewed the recent applications in a closed workshop, due to be confirmed at our April business meeting

🛣️Auckland Transport regarding the Auckland Roading Classification Framework (ARCF) this is a new requirement under the pending transport reform legislation, helping determine which roads will be managed by the Governing Body (Mayor and Councillors) and relevant local boards. Roads with that have high traffic (3-5k+ cars, 350+ trucks or 35+ buses per day and part of Future Connect) or are regionally significant (e.g. very heavy vehicle, Eden Park and City Centre) will sit with Governing Body – which accounts for about 1/3 of roads in Auckland. Formal feedback will be provided at our April business meeting.

🏑Howick Local Board Plan 2026 – another workshop to develop our upcoming 3-year strategic plan, this time reviewing the first draft. This will be refined further before going for public consultation in June/July before adoption in October.

On Saturday I attended Flat Bush Ratepayers and Residents Association AGM. Before the last election, Botany covered Flat Bush and I worked closed with the FBRRA on a range of issues. HLB Deputy Chair Kai Zeng spoke on our behalf, acknowledging the issues facing the community like illegal dumping, lack of facilities, and need for improved sense of community. Good turnout, including from local MP Rima Nakhle (Takanini).
