Weekly Wrap Up: 6 July 2026
Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 6 July.
On Tuesday, along with Members Adele White, Jack Collins, and Krish Naidu, I participated in a Citizenship Ceremony, hosted by the Howick Local Board. It’s privilege to be a part of such a momentous occasion. (See more here)
Later that evening I attended a Howick Youth Council meeting to discuss our draft Howick Local Board Plan, alongside Deputy Kai Zeng, Members Jack Collins and Luke Collings. We received some really insightful and constructive feedback, as well as having some time to observe the council members working on their various projects.
On Wednesday morning I attended the Business East Tamaki Committee Meeting. It’s a challenging time for businesses and it’s great to see our local business association working hard to deliver more value for their members.
During the day we had the opportunity to tour the Onehunga Community Recycling Centre (CRC) and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), getting a behind the scenes look in the amazing work underway to reduce what goes to landfill. We’ve been advocating for one in our area for many years, so it was good to understand how they happen and what it takes to make them work. (See more here)
On Wednesday evening I attended the East Auckland Tourism meeting, delivering the good news that the HLB has boosted their funding for the coming year. They’re busy working on their upcoming networking event as well as early stages of a destination management plan that will put East Auckland ahead of the other parts of the region to bring more jobs and income for the local economy.
On Thursday we didn’t have our usual weekly workshop, with a short two-week break. Good timing given everything else going on this week.
