‘They covered the house in stories’, Te Tuhi’s 50th Anniversary Book

On Saturday, I attended the launch of Te Tuhi’s 50th Anniversary Book ‘They covered the house in stories’, along with Chair Bruce Kendall and Member Jack Collins.

Last year, Te Tuhi celebrated five decades of contemporary art and community impact. With over 1,000 creatives contributing to over 700 exhibitions since 1975, there’s an incredibly rich history of story telling captured in this beautiful book.

One of the highlights from the event was hearing from Emily Karaka, a leading figure in contemporary Māori art, who first exhibited at Te Tuhi in 1985 and seven more times (as recently as 2022).
