Howick Youth Council (HYC) Annual Youth Summit

On Friday I attended the Howick Youth Council (HYC) Annual Youth Summit, along with Chair Bruce Kendall, Deputy Kai Zeng, and Members Adele White, Jack Collins, John Spiller, Krish Naidu, and Mike Turinsky.

A regular feature of the HYC calendar, it provides an opportunity for rangatahi (youth) from East Auckland (beyond the 32 representatives on HYC) to come together to attend workshops and discuss topics that are important to them and their peers. This culminates in presentations of projects they want to advance and the Howick Local Board is often asked to help judge.

This year I helped judge the ideas in response to the Youth Development topic. There were some interesting challenges tackled like improving readiness for adulthood, increasing intergenerational understanding, and the risks of parasocial relationships with AI. Looking forward to seeing these concepts develop further!
