Flat Bush finally has a library! We’ve opened the temporary Flat Bush library in the Ormiston Town Centre, providing a space for our community connect and learn.

In our Howick Local Board open workshop today, staff presented an update on the temporary library space for Flat Bush. The community has waited a long time for the library they were promised and while this isn't the permanent facility, I'm thrilled to see that we're closer than we've ever been before. There is still a lot of work to be done, but it's fantastic to see real progress!

Thursday 19 June 2025 was a massive day as the Howick Local Board signed off the funding required to deliver a temporary library in Flat Bush!

The Flat Bush and Ormiston area has numerous schools and is anticipated to have a population of 40,000 by 2025, yet it has no community facilities or library. Despite promised one for 17 years, the timeline on this project is unclear.
