Weekly Wrap Up: 23 March 2026

Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 23 March.

On Monday we attended the Howick Youth Council’s Principals Breakfast. This annual event is an opportunity for the newly elected youth council to speak to the leadership of the local schools, laying out their plans for the upcoming year. HLB members get a preview of this at our Meet and Greet (5 March) and it was good to see how their ideas had progressed.

On Thursday we had our business meeting, where we make all our decisions that impact the community. I’ll do a complete write up later in the week, but here’s some key decisions we made:
🗣️Received deputations regarding: inline skate pad request for Barry Curtis; improvements for Riverhills Park; controlling invasive weeds in Howick; public forum on The Parade Stage 2.
⛔Revoked approval for 2 of the remaining 4 parts of The Parade Safety Improvements Stage 2 (I voted against this)
🚧Approved construction of the Kilimanjaro pedestrian safety improvements
📚Named the temporary library in Flat Bush, as well as eight new roads.
📖Reconfirmed our commitment to open workshops.
