Chapel Road Shared Path

For years, we've heard concerns from the public about the lack of safe walking or cycling path along Chapel Road between Ormiston and Stancombe Roads. We've been working with Auckland Transport to identify potential solutions and I'm pleased that we now have a proposal!

AT have decided on a 3m shared walking and cycling path, instead of a standard narrower footpath to future proof for any additional cycleway connections in the area. This will make it easier and safer for everyone, especially children, to walk to school, Barry Curtis Park, and the Ormiston Road bus stops.

AT expect to deliver this project by July 2027.

Please note that at this stage, AT will not be upgrading the existing gravel path between St Luke’s Church and Stancombe Road (this is being addressed through a private development).

And the realignment of Chapel Road may be considered in the future under the Regional Land Transport Plan 2023-2034, subject to funding.

You can find out more about this project (including some of the history) here: https://at.govt.nz/projects-and-initiatives/chapel-road-flat-bush-shared-path

AT is seeking public feedback on this proposal before 1 May 2026 through atengagement@at.govt.nz or 09 355 3553.
