Weekly Wrap Up: 20 April 2026

Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 20 April.

On Thursday we had our HLB business meeting (https://aucklandcouncil.resolve.red/portal/meeting/12498). This is where we make all our decisions that impact the community. I’ll do a complete write up later in the week, but here’s some key decisions we made:

  • Community Grants approved

  • Lease granted for Howick Pakūranga Netball Centre to enable them to build new cover for court.

  • Feedback provided to Eastern Busway on Ra Hihi / Pakūranga Road intersection proposal.

On Friday I attended the 50th birthday celebrations for the Howick Leisure Centre. It was wonderful to learn more about the amazing story that led to its construction, originally as the Howick Community Centre. It was wonderful to celebrate this milestone with staff, local residents, and fellow Board members.

We then were lucky to get a sneak peek at the upcoming Game Over at Pakūranga. The former Warehouse has been transformed into an awesome entertainment space for all ages. Read more here.

Unfortunately, our catch up with our Ward Councillors was cancelled due to one of the councillors being unwell.

On Saturday I attended Anzac Day services on Stockade Hill, Howick. The dawn service, led by the RSA, is always special as we solemnly remember the sacrifices of those who served, particularly those who didn’t return. The Civic Service is led by the Chairperson of the Howick Local Board with community involvement, bringing another dimension to the commemorations.
