12th 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing
On Friday I attended 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing at Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple New Zealand. In it’s 12 year, the festival provides opportunities for local schools to visit and learn about the history and culture of this special place. Having attended before, I know that it’s well supported by local schools and the Police, teaching tamariki (children) about the importance of positive thinking, actions, and words.
As part of the programme, every child is given wholesome vegetarian fried rice. This simple, but tasty meal is a highlight with many coming back for extra helpings! It was a pleasure having the opportunity to help cook it alongside fellow Howick Local Board member Adele White and Howick Ward Councillor Bo Burns.
We helped students create origami lotus flowers and this year Adele and I were fortunate to assist in handing out the special gift of a teddy to students from Ormiston Primary, as a reminder of their visit.
Thank you to the Venerable Abbess Manshin and her team (especially the volunteers) who make this happen year after year.
