International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination
Today (17 May) is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), also known as International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination.
Despite the progress that we've made here and around the world, the sad reality is that too many people still face violence and discrimination. 65 countries still criminalise consensual same-sex acts and more than 62 restrict freedom of expression on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics issues.
Self determination is the most fundamental human right, and everyone deserves to be accepted for who they are.
We must continue to fight for fairness and equality, and stand up against hate. When we vote in elections this year, we have an opportunity to vote against hatred and those who would use it as a cheap trick to distract and avoid the real issues we face.
For those who identify as gender or sexually diverse, you are seen, loved, and valued
