Weekly Wrap Up: 27 April 2026

Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 27 April.

On Tuesday evening I attended the blessing and opening of the upgraded courts at the Howick Pakūranga Netball Centre. Two years ago HPNC raised concerns that Block 4 was in desperate need of attention so the HLB prioritised the repair and replacement, including asphalt rebuild and rubberisation. To minimise the disruption, staff and contractors worked around the playing seasons to deliver a fantastic result that was officially opened on Tuesday. To mark the occasion, HLB members joined club members in a friendly game.

On Thursday we had our HLB workshop (https://aucklandcouncil.resolve.red/portal/meeting/12275)
🛣️Auckland Transport regarding our Kōkiri Agreement (Local Board Transport Plan) – HLB members ranked projects to reach consensus on priorities for upcoming 3-years. Final version coming to business meeting for approval (probably May or June).
🗑️Illegal dumping workshop – we had a presentation from Wilkinson Environmental who have been working on cameras to catch perpetrators dumping rubbish, scaling up with AI to enable faster recognition.
👥Owairoa Marae – due to sickness of key people, this item was deferred to a future date

This was followed immediately by an additional meeting (https://aucklandcouncil.resolve.red/portal/meeting/13406) to receive the public consultation on the annual plan and for us to formalise our feedback to Auckland Council. We generally supported the plan, noting the impact of rates rises on the cost of living. This will be presented by the Chair and Deputy to the Governing Body (Mayor and Councillors) this coming week.

I then attended the Friends of Mangemangeroa AGM (along with Deputy Kai Zeng, Members Adele White, Jack Collins, and John Spiller). This local group celebrated 25-years of volunteering last year, which is an incredible milestone.

On Friday morning I attended the sod turning for the Howick Pakūranga Community Sports Centre gymnasium expansion project. This ambitious project started with a $42k grant from the HLB in July 2022.

This week:
📅 Thu 7 May: HLB workshop (https://aucklandcouncil.resolve.red/portal/meeting/12276)
📅 Thu 7 May: Road Safety Conversation Event
📅 Fri 8 May: 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing at Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple
