Proposed changes for intersection of Pakūranga Rd, Hutchinsons Rd, and Aberfeldy Ave

The intersection of Pakūranga Road, Hutchinsons Road, and Aberfeldy Avenue is currently ranked as the 7th highest risk intersection in Auckland due to its poor crash history.

Between 2020 and 2024, 14 crashes were reported, including 4 serious injury crashes and 6 minor injury crashes. 6 of these involved vulnerable road users (pedestrians, cyclists, or motorcyclists).

Auckland Transport is proposing changes to address the issues and they want your feedback on the designs.

They are proposing to:
🚧Install traffic lights and create new pedestrian crossings at the intersection
🚧Widen footpaths around the intersection
🚧Add cycle ramps to provide safer access for people on bikes
🚧Relocate existing bus stops closer to the new signals so passengers have a safe place to cross Pakuranga Road
🚧Ensure safe access to nearby destinations, including supermarkets, petrol stations, reserves, and the fire station

As a result of these changes, 6 parking spaces will be removed, but should make the intersection safer and more convenient for everyone, whether you’re driving, cycling, or walking.

📅 Public consultation is open until Friday 29 May 2026.
