Weekly Wrap up: 8 June 2026

Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 8 June.

On Monday I attended the Pest Free Howick Community Advisory Group meeting. I have the pleasure of being one of two HLB representatives to this group (along with Deputy Kai Zeng) and it’s always good to have the opportunity to learn more about their amazing mahi (work). The recent Moth Plant competition was another amazing success thanks to the awesome work of groups across the community – well done to everyone who participated.

On Tuesday I attended the East Auckland Tourism Meeting (another group I’m fortunate to be the HLB representative for). They’re busy working on a range of initiatives to help bring more people to East Auckland to boost our local economy – if you haven’t followed their page or signed up for their newsletter, you’re missing out on their comprehensive weekly

There was nothing for our normal Thursday workshop, so it was cancelled (first time this term). But we had an additional business meeting to approve our Local Board Agreement – required by law, this sets out our total budget and priorities for the coming year (July-June). There was a last-minute change to the total budget (from $33.9M to $39.8M) which raised a few questions, with staff advising it wasn’t extra funding but a more accurate reflection of our allocation. Obviously not ideal and we’ve asked staff for a more detailed explanation.

Our special Elected Member briefing on Plan Change 120: housing intensification was delayed a week - this will be happening this Friday instead. See my earlier post on what we know so far.
