Tour of Eastern Busway

Before our Howick Local Board workshop last week, we were given the opportunity to do a site tour of the Eastern Busway Project.

While we get regular updates from the project, it's good to have the chance to see the mahi in action. Before we went out, we had a briefing on the project including a quick update on the recent closure (five months work completed in 2 weeks), Pakuranga Road intersection (final proposal is being reviewed) and final leg to Botany (confirmed as now within project scope).

After being provided the appropriate PPE, our first stop was to see the progress on the Taupaepae (means to meet or escort your visitors). This new bridge runs over the estuary, connecting the busway from Ti Rakau to Burswood. The temporary bridge is being removed, leaving the new structure in place.

We then moved down the road to see the foundations of the new Te Taha Wai / Edgewater Station. This is one of four new stations being delivered by the project. It was also an opportunity to see the Busway which runs down the centre of Ti Rakau Drive at this point, and will soon be used for general traffic to allow the other lanes to be upgraded.

This is a huge project for East Auckland and will provide more transport choices for everyone.
