Weekly Wrap Up: 2 February 2026

Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 2 February.

Before our workshop on Thursday, we were invited on a site tour by the Eastern Busway Alliance. While we get regular updates from the project team, it’s good to have the opportunity to get out and see the project unfold. Check out my post for more details.

At our workshop we discussed:

  • Kainga Ora – this was a closed workshop due to the nature of some of the information that was shared.

  • Asset recycling – staff are recommending council sell residual property from Stage 1 of the Eastern Busway (1 Kerswill Place) – our formal feedback into the process will be via a business meeting (probably February).

  • Auckland Transport regarding our Stanniland Street project – we asked AT to investigate options to address the lack of safe pedestrian crossings between the retirement village and local shops. Public consultation has been completed with 67% (29/43) supporting option 1. This will come to a business meeting for decision (probably February).

  • Auckland Transport regarding their project for intersection of Pakūranga / Hutchinson / Aberfeldy – identified as the 7th most dangerous intersection in Auckland, AT are considering signalising it to reduce the risk to people. Public consultation will follow in the coming months.

  • Auckland Transport on Airport to Botany project – this vital project to deliver rapid transport option down Te Irirangi Drive with 18km of congestion free bus lanes and 12 stations. Route protection gained in November 2025. Delivered through staged approach with interim improvements coming soon, extending AirportLink bus through to Botany.

  • Community Leases – we discussed some urgent requests from local groups to help prioritise the workload. Strong support for progressing leases for Lloyd Elsmore Community Hub (LECH) and Howick Pakūranga Netball Centre to unlock funding opportunities.

On Saturday I was invited to attend the Reunion Dinner at Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple, along with fellow Howick Local Board Member Adele White. Reunion Dinners are a traditional part of the Lunar New Year Celebrations in Chinese culture where families dine together to celebrate the year past and prepare for the New Year. Having been to so many events and activities at Fo Guang Shan in the past year, we certainly feel like part of their family, and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces.
