Weekly Wrap Up: 9 February 2026
Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 9 February.
On Monday morning I attended the housewarming for Te Tuhi who have just re-opened after months of major renovations (due to flooding). In true Te Tuhi style it was informal, lively, and well catered! (see more).
At our workshop on Thursday we discussed:
Bucklands and Eastern Beaches War Memorial Hall renewal: the building needs a major overhaul to bring it up to modern standards which could cost up to $2.74M. This would require deferral of more projects, following on from similar funding challenges with the Howick Library roof.
Auckland Transport on their upcoming work programme: initial meeting with AT to discuss the scope and long list of projects for their work programme. Good to see some long-awaited projects on this list, but nothing formalised yet.
Howick Local Board Plan 2026: second workshop to discuss our updated 3-year strategy which will be going for consultation mid-2026. With transport expected to land this year, the strategy will include a new section for this major topic, by merging Our People and Our Community together (which obviously had strong overlap).
On Saturday I attended the Colours of Joy community-led event in Barry Curtis Park. It was a wonderful afternoon, filled with colour and celebration of diversity (see more).
On Sunday I attended the Lunar New Year Celebration in the Botany Library. Wonderful performances ranging from the traditional to modern. Thank you to the awesome staff at the Library for making the space available for our community to celebrate and share their culture with others (see more).

Tue 17 Feb: Elected Member Hui Taumata (Symposium) all elected members for Auckland Council have been invited
Wed 18 Feb: Business East Tamaki committee meeting (as HLB representative)
