Weekly Wrap Up: 2 March 2026
Each week I’m providing a quick summary of the meetings and events I’ve attended as a member of the Howick Local Board (HLB). This is my report for last week, starting Monday 2 March.
On Monday I attended the Pest Free Howick Ward Community Advisory Group meeting along with Deputy Chair Kai Zeng (we were appointed to represent the HLB). This is a relatively new group, designed to help Pest Free Howick deepen its engagement with communities across the local board area. We had some good discussions about potential barriers and ideas to engage more people in the important environmental work this group does.
Another awesome environmental action supported by the Howick Local Board is the EnviroSchools programme. On Wednesday Howick Primary School hosted other local schools to celebrate the work that their students have been doing. Unfortunately, due to other work commitments I missed the earlier part of the event, but I wanted to be there to support and celebrate this awesome work.
On Thursday we had our workshop (https://aucklandcouncil.resolve.red/portal/meeting/12267)
Auckland Transport regarding Howick Town Centre parking review – regular review to ensure the parking is sufficient to support local businesses. Good news is that review found no major issues, with few small recommendations (that will be subject to public consultation). No plan to implement paid parking.
Auckland Transport regarding East Auckland Bus Service changes currently out for consultation. Great to see the increased services, especially for East Tamaki and Flat Bush. Check out https://akhaveyoursay.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/east-auckland-services
Howick Local Board Plan development continuing our previous sessions on potential objectives for our new three-year strategy. This will go out for public consultation later in the year.
Grants review – closed and confidential so cannot provide further information.
Auckland Transport regarding transport safety – really good overview of the challenges and opportunities to improve road safety, with loads of data and evidence. More discussions to come as part of our upcoming agreement with AT.
On Saturday I attended the Howick Village Cultural Food Festival, an annual event that celebrates the diversity of culture we have in East Auckland with food, stalls, and performances. I had the pleasure once again of awarding the trophy for the Great Goblet Race – congratulations to Johnny from The Apothecary.
And on Sunday I went to the Howick Historical Village LIVE Day with my whānau (see my post here)
