Ko tēnei te Wiki o te Reo Māori

Ko tēnei te Wiki o te Reo Māori. It's Māori language week!

More than just one of our three official languages, it's the first spoken in this land. It's the language of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi), our country's founding document, and a legally recognised taonga (treasure) of our nation.

For me, I enjoy learning about the history of Aotearoa New Zealand, and better understanding Te Reo Māori helps unlock the stories and placenames of my home. I'm still learning and I enjoy the challenge.

Each day of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2026 has a theme to guide the week. Highlighting the different ways te reo Māori belongs in our everyday lives - at home, at work, and in our communities.

There's heaps of great resources available so take this opportunity to challenge yourself to learn some new words and phrases. Check out www.reomaori.co.nz
