I want to live in an Auckland where we have the infrastructure, environment and people to support our growing city.

Our councillors, mayor and local boards work collaboratively to achieve the best outcome for Auckland in an open and transparent manner. The organisation is accountable to the people and the elected representatives.

Local government funding has been reformed and council is no longer entirely reliant on ratepayers, recognising the significant contribution that the regions make to the country’s economy.

Waste within council has been eliminated unlocking funds to invest in the infrastructure we need and deliver core services effectively and efficiently.

Council has a fully costed, long term plan for infrastructure and housing in Auckland. Our planning considers the environmental, social and financial impacts of sprawl and is focused on delivering intensification done well, with design standards to ensure that homes are warm and accessible.

    1. Demand an honest and accountable council, holding my fellow councillors and mayor to the highest standard.

    2. Work constructively with all parties (regardless of political background) to achieve the best outcomes. As a true independent, I can work with anyone who genuinely cares for Auckland.

    3. Provide open and honest communication on council decisions and how they will impact our community. Even the bad news and decisions I disagree with must be communicated - the public deserves to know.

    4. Improve council website to provide information to the public in an easy and accessible manner, including better links for local boards and options to subscribe for alerts.

    5. Transform council organisations into purpose led organisations that have a strong vision and strategy - this will help lift staff engagement and allow for more targeted delivery.

    6. Support and enable business and economic growth by removing bureaucracy and recognising the incredible local talent and innovation we have.

    1. Challenge reckless spending, especially vanity projects and excessive consultancy fees.

    2. Continue to drive cost efficiencies throughout the council including group procurement and better alignment between departments.

    3. Ensure that core services like park maintenance are delivered consistently and reliably.

    4. Support process improvement initiatives within council that will improve performance, reduce costs and lift staff morale.

    1. Stop endless rates rises - ratepayers cannot be seen as an endless source of revenue. No other organisation could get away with such irresponsible use of money and still come back for more.

    2. Ensure that council leverages its commercial assets and businesses to maximise their revenue potential and community benefits. For example council owns significant shares in Auckland Airport and should be proactively managing this asset.

    3. Reduce reliance on general rates with alternative funding including commercial arrangements.

    4. Protect our parks from sell-offs, we need our green spaces even more as we grow. Trying to raise $224 million by selling off community parks and reserves in a fire sale is irresponsible and short-sighted.

    5. Bring serious financial decision making to council discussions to ensure that our city gets the most cost effective services possible. Partner with local organisations and businesses to deliver more cost effective solutions.

    6. Advocate for rates reform by central government to ensure that more of the revenue collected locally is made available to council (reducing reliance on rates).

    1. Drive greater accountability through council with tightly focused performance targets and disciplined measurement. Greater focus on cost-to-serve and other metrics to ensure the organisation continues to strive for improvement and issues are addressed.

    2. Challenge the Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs) to become more accountable and responsive to the public and elected members, through the use of the powers granted through legislation if required. Section 92 of the Auckland Council Act requires CCOs to comply yet our councillors and mayor have been unwilling to use the powers they have.

    3. Modernise council elections to protect and strengthen our democracy, ensuring that everyone has a voice.

    4. Speed up investigations, tidy up and enforcement of illegal dumping to ensure that perpetrators are dealt with and the environment is cleaned up. Ensure that Council recovers the millions spent cleaning up illegally dumped rubbish from those responsible.

    1. Protect our heritage (historical, cultural and environmental) while allowing the city to build the housing and infrastructure we desperately need. Blanket restrictions on suburbs is clumsy and does not deliver the protections we need.

    2. Ensure Council has a fully costed infrastructure plan that will ensure that the intensification delivers a compact, modern city that can cope with the population it has today and growth in to the future.

    3. Sensible planning and design guidelines ensure that the city is building houses that are accessible, warm and safe. Overseen by the award winning Auckland Design Office, these guidelines ensure that our city is in line with international best standards.

    4. Accessibility requirements ensure that all new homes built are open to everyone.

    5. Protect fertile soils from urban sprawl (e.g. Pukekohe, Franklin) with sensible limits on the edges of our city. These valuable lands should not be covered with concrete and asphalt - we must protect our food production.
