My vision for economic and cultural development
I want to live in an Auckland where we leverage our diverse and creative thinking to innovate and grow.
We’ve embraced our diverse populations and enabled them to succeed.
Central government recognises the economic powerhouse that is our city
Economic development
Support our local economy by reducing bureaucracy and improving transparency over spending.
Continue to raise Auckland's position with Central Government to recognise our role as 1/3 of NZ's economy. Regional City deals are an opportunity for us to get more for Auckland.
Support the introduction of a bed-night visitor levy to enable Auckland to provide the tourism opportunities that we know we can but lack the funding to deliver.
Continue to push for more local procurement, especially in the larger council contracts. There is value in large scale contracts but we don’t want all the profit going overseas.
Cultural development
True partnership with mana whenua, living up to the promise of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Too often engagement is just box ticking and lacks genuine meaning with unrealistic timeframes.
Celebrate and support our incredible cultural diversity and the opportunities it provides.
Continue to support the amazing arts and cultural spaces across the city, that bring life to our communities.
Reduce the bureaucracy community organisations are forced to navigate through for funding and other council support, shifting the focus to enabling the community.

With nearly half our budget allocated to maintenance, you’d expect your local board to have good oversight and control over the $14M spend but unfortunately this hasn’t been the case. But there’s hope!
In our Howick Local Board open workshop today, staff presented an update on the temporary library space for Flat Bush. The community has waited a long time for the library they were promised and while this isn't the permanent facility, I'm thrilled to see that we're closer than we've ever been before. There is still a lot of work to be done, but it's fantastic to see real progress!
Fantastic morning as the new destination playground in Barry Curtis Park was opened for the community!
